CBD Products By Type: Which Delivery is Right for You?

Sublingual Drops (Tinctures)

 Sublingual drops are administered directly beneath the tongue and absorbed through the mucous membranes into the bloodstream. This method allows for faster absorption than swallowing a pill or capsule, as the CBD bypasses the digestive system and enters the bloodstream more directly. Clients are encouraged to start here because this method is self-regulating. Once an effective dose is established, other means of delivery are explored. Products usually come in 1 fl. oz dropper bottles in varying potency strengths.

Gummies

 Gummies are CBD-infused chewy candies popular for their enjoyable texture and taste. Digestion plays a crucial role in the absorption of CBD and can vary depending on individual factors like stomach acidity and metabolism. Therefore, CBD that reaches systemic circulation (bioavailability) can be lower than other methods. This can influence the onset time and duration of effects compared to other methods of CBD consumption. 

Capsules

 

Gelcaps are convenient and easy to dose, making them a straightforward option for those who prefer a pre-measured amount of CBD. This can be advantageous for consistent dosing.

Like CBD gummies, gelcaps are ingested and pass through the digestive system, which can affect the bioavailability of CBD. Due to the slower absorption and processing through the digestive system, the effects of CBD from gel caps may take longer to onset but can last longer compared to other methods. Effectiveness can also depend on personal preference and individual response. Some people may find gelcaps more convenient and discreet, while others prefer faster-acting methods or those with higher bioavailability.

Smoke (Flower / Vape)

 

The buds or flowers harvested from specially cultivated hemp plants are bred to have high levels of CBD and less than 0.3% THC. CBD flower contains various cannabinoids,  terpenes, and flavonoids that work synergistically through what's known as the entourage effect, enhancing the overall therapeutic effects. Similar to smoking marijuana, CBD flower can be smoked. CBD is quickly absorbed through the lungs into the bloodstream, providing a rapid onset of effects. CBD flower can also be vaporized. Vaping heats the flower to a temperature where cannabinoids and terpenes are released as vapor without combustion, offering a smoke-free alternative with fast absorption.

Topicals

 

CBD lotions, creams, gels, and balms work by being applied directly to the skin, where they interact with cannabinoid receptors and the peripheral nervous system. They are effective for addressing localized pain, inflammation, and skin conditions. The application is straightforward and targets specific areas of concern directly. When choosing a topical, consider where, when, and how often it will be applied. For example, a roll-on dispenser works well for freeze gels; lotions or creams work well for larger areas or the hands; balms tend to penetrate deeper but can be greasy.


Pets

CBD offers similar benefits to humans, including pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, reduction of anxiety and stress, and improvement in certain skin conditions. The correct dosage for pets depends on factors like their size, weight, and specific health conditions. Start with a low dose and observe your pet's response before adjusting. Typically a tincture works well when added to food.  Alternatively, soft and hard treats are available.
